Whalers announce Andrey Kapranov as head coach for new USPHL Premier junior team

The Jersey Whalers are pleased to announce that Andrey Kapranov will be the head coach for the program’s new USPHL Premier junior team.

Kapranov was the head coach of the NA3HL New Jersey Titans during their inaugural season this past year. The team finished in third during the regular season with a 16-15-1-3 record for 36 points. The Titans then swept the best-of-three first round of the divisional semi-finals and went to the third and deciding game in the divisional finals.

"I am very excited about joining the Jersey Whalers hockey club," stated Kapranov. "I'm looking forward to starting a new junior program for an organization that is established and is committed to winning and moving players onto the next level. I look forward to the challenge" concluded Kapranov.

In addition to being the head coach for the NA3 Titans, he was the head coach for the Jersey Shore Wildcats during the 2017-18 season. He has worked with a multitude of Russian-born stars, most notably Alexander Ovechin He also has helped Alexander Radulov of the Dallas Stars and Alexander Galchenyuk of the Minnesota Wild. He is a former Russian professional hockey player and coach of the Russian National Junior and Dynamo Moscow Youth teams.

“We are happy about Andrey Kapranov being our first head coach of our USPHL premier junior team at the Whalers” stated General Manager George Haviland. “Andrey is coming off a great season in which he led an expansion junior team to the divisional finals. He has the experience to be able to train players and take them to the next level” concluded Haviland.

The Whalers will begin their inaugural USPHL Premier season in the fall. Their home games will be played the Ocean Ice Palace in Brick, NJ.
